When you use ChoosyFoodie we collect the following categories of data: - Account data: email address and password (stored encrypted) if you create an account. - Profile data: display name, age range, sex, household composition, preferred language. - Usage data: scanned products, ratings (1-5 stars), comments, feedback tags, preferences ("I'll take it", "favorite", "not convinced"). - Location data: GPS coordinates captured at scan time, used to determine the city and country. - Gamification data: experience points, level and rank. - Technical data: device model and operating system, app version and error logs (diagnostic purposes only). - Push notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
We process your data to: - Provide the product scanning, rating and discovery service (legal basis: performance of a contract). - Personalise content and suggestions based on your taste (legal basis: legitimate interest). - Send push notifications for reminders and milestones (legal basis: consent). - Produce aggregate and anonymous statistics for the community and for our B2B partners (legal basis: legitimate interest). We do not sell your identifying personal data to third parties.
Socio-demographic data (age range, sex, household) are optional and collected progressively in exchange for benefits (XP bonus and more precise insights). They are processed in aggregate and anonymous form for community statistics and for our analytics services for manufacturers (B2B). Your identity cannot be inferred from these aggregated data.
We share data with the following parties as data processors: - Open Food Facts: to retrieve product information and images. - Artificial intelligence provider (LLM): to generate automatic content and tags on products. Product data and aggregated ratings are sent to this service, not identifying personal data. - Firebase (Google): to send push notifications. - ZeptoMail (Zoho Corporation): to send password recovery emails. The service operates from data centers outside the EU (United States); the transfer takes place on the basis of adequate contractual safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses). - Cloud hosting and database provider (Microsoft Azure / CosmosDB). All parties are bound by adequate contractual safeguards under the GDPR.
Some app content (feedback tags, product summaries and spotlights) is automatically generated by artificial intelligence systems. Such content may contain errors and does not necessarily represent the opinions of the app or of individual users. Where present, the app shows an appropriate disclaimer. Under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (AI Act), our use of AI is minimal-risk and does not involve automated decisions with legal effects on you.
The app does not use cookies. The website does not use profiling or tracking cookies, nor third-party cookies: it only stores your language preference locally on your device (localStorage). Therefore no cookie policy or cookie banner is required.
We retain your data for as long as necessary for the purposes described above. Account and profile data are retained while your account is active. Usage data (ratings, scans) are retained to feed community statistics. Diagnostic logs are retained for a limited period (90 days). Upon account deletion, identifying data are removed and demographic data and ratings are anonymised (see Terms of Service).
Under the GDPR you have the right to: - Access your personal data. - Rectify inaccurate data. - Request deletion of your data (right to be forgotten). - Request data portability. - Object to processing based on legitimate interest. - Withdraw consent at any time.
